8 Reasons To get Regular Facials

For perfect skin all year round.

Getting a regular facial treatment can be a deeply relaxing treatment, as well as giving the skin a deep clean and removing dead surface skin, having a trained therapist massaging your face and applying lotions and potions is a very therapeutic experience. Everyday our skin is exposed to all kinds of dirt, UV damage and other pollutions in the environment constantly attacking it, causing clogged pores and dried out skin leading to skin that could appear dull and lifeless. Having a facial is like a MOT for the skin and here are 8 reasons why you should be getting in those monthly facials!

Maximise your home skincare

Spending lots of money on expensive products can be counter productive if you are not cleaning the skin properly. All those expensive skincare products you have won’t penetrate the pores if they are blocked. Having a facial at least once a month can help remove excess oils, unclog pores, and help extract blackheads, meaning better use of your own skincare products at home. Think of it like having a fresh oil change for your car. From time to time our faces need a proper deep cleanse, to ensure that it stays healthy and optimal for all your products to work better on. A trained therapist will also be able to inform you of your skin type ,ensuring you are using the best products to maximise your skin health.

Qualified and informed advice

Before I went to beauty school and learnt all about the skin I was doing on the quick hacks I read about, which I didn’t know at the time, but were making my problematic skin worse. Like a lot of people, I have done the toothpaste on spots, and even used to shamelessly slather my face in sudocrem (the stuff you use to treat and soothe nappy rash) in the hope it would magically vanish my spots. What I didn’t know was that these heavy products were just clogging up my oily skin and making it worse. Like many other women, I used to rely on makeup wipes to remove my makeup, which instead of cleaning my skin they were only putting more bacteria on it. (If you are reading this and you use facial wipes to cleanse your face, you may want to find another alternative). Bacteria thrives in warm and wet environments, thus those facial wipes being the perfect place for bacteria growth! I soon discovered my skin type needs and the best products to use, thanks to my beauty teacher giving me a skin analysis and recommending me products that would help my congested skin. I was 26 and after surviving most of my teens with only the odd pimple here and there, my skin was in a really bad way, which was later put down to hormonal fluctuations that were causing my skin to become more oily and inflamed. If you suffer from outbreaks a facial that includes a balancing, detoxifying clay mask, such as the one we use by botanicals will help draw out any impurities, whilst reducing redness and restoring some balance.

Anti-ageing

If you are worried about fine lines and wrinkles, having regular facials can improve the appearance of them, by plumping out and hydrating skin, skin looks healthier more radiant and fine lines and wrinkles less visible. A lot of lines can be instantly reduced with the right skincare and hydration. If you are wanting something a little bit more intense you could consider masks and peels that target anti-aging or microneedling which causes slight trauma to the skin promoting the production of collagen and elastin during the healing process; the proteins responsible for fuller plumping more youthful looking skin.

Seasonal skin changes

As the seasons change, so does your skins needs. You may notice your skin become drier in the winter, as the cold air and low humidity dries it out, the same way as our lips become sore and chapped and we reach for the Chapstick to comfort them. Our skin needs the same love and attention, with some deeply hydrating moisturisers and masks to keep the skin feeling supple, your skin will be much more happier and less sensitive. During the summertime we need that added protection with a higher sunscreen, summer facials will ensure your skin is getting the best protection and helping with any sun damage.

Lymphatic drainage and massage

Most facials will include a certain amount of massage, depending on the length of treatment. By massaging the face, neck, shoulders, and head we help get rid of toxins, reduce fluid retention & puffiness, leaving the skin looking refreshed and revitalized. This massage uses light strokes towards the nymph nodes to help eliminate toxins naturally, and is deeply relaxing for the client , helping with any tension & tightness. Some holistic facials include the use of a Jade stone, which helps with puffiness with its cooling properties. A massage included is one of my favourite reasons regular facials are so beneficial , it's two therapeutic treatments in one!

Professional exfoliation

Our skin is constantly exposed to free radicals, UVA & UVB rays, pollution, and dirt, which can wreak havoc on your skin making it look older than it is. Although there is no way to avoid all environmental damage you can help minimise damage by taking action to ensure skin is cared for , minimising the effects. Facial treatments use professional products to gently remove dead skin. For a more intense treatment, opt for a microdermabrasion facial ,which can mechanically remove dead skin and improve skin tone , scaring and texture. Fruit skin peels are another deeply exfoliation treatment that promote healthy skin cellular turnover, revealing radiant and fresher looking complexion after regular treatments.

Acne and scarring

Acne is a common skin condition, caused by hair follicles becoming blogged with oil and dead skin cells, resulting in blackheads, pimples, and whiteheads. Acne can have a significate impact on self esteem and confidence levels, so having regular facials that aim to address the acne is beneficial for your overall sense of wellbeing. Regular facials followed by a skin routine at home can greatly reduce acne by deeply cleansing and exfoliating the skin. As well as classic facials, microdermabrasion, micro needling and led light facial treatments are all great options to help with acne and scaring. Pro tip, never try to pop your spots, however temping this may be as this will lead to scarring, (I know this from personal experience).

De Stress

Life can be busy & stressful for all, chances are you have work, kids, and other daily commitments, most of us don’t take nearly enough time out for ourselves for a spot of self-care and personal DIY, but self-care should always be a priority. Spending an hour having a facial treatment can be a great way to unwind and de-stress whilst helping look after your skin. If you can't make monthly facials, try to have one every 2-3 ,months and keep the results up at home. If you are confused about what skincare you need ask your beauty therapist to write you a prescription of products that you can use at home.
